What Pebblehug Is: A Story About You and Your Child, Read Together

A Pebblehug book is a story about you and your child, with both of you in the pictures, made for reading together. Here’s what that means.

Picture story time when your child points at the page and says, “That’s us.” That moment is what Pebblehug is for.

A story about the two of you

Each Pebblehug book is a personalized digital picture book for families with children ages 3–6. Your child and one parent, Mom or Dad, are drawn as illustrated characters from a photo of each of you, and appear throughout a story that’s already written.

You don’t design a book or write anything. The story is ready; what you bring is the two of you. You open it together and find yourselves inside.

Two stories, written for two relationships

Right now there are two books, one with Dad and one with Mom. They aren’t one story with the parent’s name swapped. Each has its own scenes and feelings, shaped around how a child and that parent share a day.

In Dad, Look! a walk becomes an adventure led by the child’s own discoveries, and Dad listens, helps and joins in. In Mom, Will You Miss Me Too? a child and Mom each have a day of their own, with room to miss each other and still enjoy the day.

A story about you, not a shelf of stories

Pebblehug isn’t a reading app or a library of books for every child. We write a small number of stories, each around one relationship, so the child and the grown-up in it can read it together.

That’s why we began with just two. We’d rather get each one right, the rhythm for reading aloud, the gestures in each picture, the moments when a child stops to point at a familiar face, than offer a long menu of characters and themes.

We hope to make room for more of the relationships that make a family. For now, each book features one child with Mom or one child with Dad.

Made for reading together

You read your book together online through private access. You also get one Story PDF on US Letter pages to keep, and to print at home or at a local print shop for your family. No printed book ships, so there’s no shipping wait.

What to expect

A place to begin

A familiar face can start a conversation. What happens next, the pointing, the questions, the “again?”, belongs to your family. That’s the part we hope our books make room for.
